Congratulations to Andrew Forbes, Associate Professor in the University of Iowa Department of Biology, for being selected to receive the James Van Allen Natural Sciences Fellowship for 2020-21! This is a competitive award designed to encourage and support scholarly work in the natural sciences. With funds from this award, Dr. Forbes and his team will be testing a new method for studying historical plant domestication events using genomic data from specialist insects that attack plants. The researchers anticipate being able to test hypotheses about where plant domestication first occurred as well as when, and in what directions, those domesticated plants subsequently moved. The award is offered by the UI Office of the Executive Vice President & Provost.
