Dear Alumni & Friends,

This academic year marks the 165th Anniversary of the Department of Biology! The roots of our department reach all the way back to 1855 when the Natural History Department was formed. We have demonstrated a timeless commitment to excellence in research and education in the life sciences.

On Wednesday, March 24, Hawkeyes everywhere will have the opportunity to make a difference by taking part in One Day for Iowa, the University of Iowa’s 24-hour online giving day. Help us celebrate our anniversary! Our goal is to receive 165 gifts this year (any amount is welcome).

Now, more than ever, there is a critical need to train the next generation of health care professionals, life science researchers, and educators. Please help us meet this need and change the lives around us by supporting the Department of Biology. Our major initiatives, the Development Fund and the Graduate Fund, support faculty and student research as well as excellence in undergraduate and graduate education. Challenge matches and friendly competitions will help your One Day for Iowa gift go further, resulting in an even greater impact on our students, faculty, and staff! In addition, your social media posts could earn bonus dollars for Biology – don’t forget to tag @uiowabiology with the hashtag #1DayForIowa

We hope you will help us reach our goal and make One Day for Iowa a great success! And if you don’t want to wait, you can make your gift today!

Thank you, and as always, Go Hawks!
