Exploring Careers in the Biosciences Networking Event

All students interested in exploring career and internship opportunities in Biology and the life sciences are invited to attend the Exploring Careers in the Biosciences” event on Thursday, October 20 in the IMU.  

Beginning at 6:30pm in the IMU North Room, the event will feature keynote speaker, Melissa Smrz, a forensic scientist with over 20 years of experience as a Forensic Examiner, Special Agent, and Deputy Director with the FBI. Smrz is a University of Iowa alumna with a degree in Zoology (now Biology) and a certificate in Medical Technology (now Medical Laboratory Science).

At approximately 7:00pm, students will have the opportunity to practice their networking skills and meet with employers about various career and internship opportunities in the biosciences. Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT) headquartered in nearby Coralville and other employers and graduate programs will be in attendance.

A networking prep session on how to interact with employers will be offered prior to this event beginning at 6:00pm in the IMU South Room.

All students are also invited to a question & answer session with Melissa Smrz on Friday, October 21 at 11:30am in Room 106 Biology Building East (BBE). This will be informal and a great opportunity for you to personally meet Ms. Smrz and ask questions related to her career, education, and experiences.
