Department of Biology students named to Big Ten Academic Team

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Sixty-nine University of Iowa student-athletes have been named to the 2019-20 Big Ten Winter Academic All-Conference team. The list includes student-athletes from men's basketball (4), women's basketball (8), men's gymnastics (6), women's gymnastics (10), men's swimming and diving (11), women's swimming and diving (13), and wrestling (17). To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be on a varsity team, as verified by being on the official squad list as of March 1 for winter sports, who have been enrolled full-time at the institution for a minimum of 12 months, and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

Among those students in the Department of Biology named to the academic team were:
Monika Czinano (Women's Basketball) - Biology
Tomi Taiwo (Women's Basketball) - Biology
Paula Valino Ramos (Women's Basketball) - Neuroscience and a member of Joshua Weiner's lab in the Department of Biology
Noah Scigliano (Men's Gymnastics) - Biomedical Sciences
Connor Corbin (Wrestling) - Biology
