Bernd Fritzsch, Professor of Biology and Director of the Center on Aging & the Aging Mind and Brain Initiative at the University of Iowa, organized a symposium at the 7th meeting of the European Society for Evolutionary Developmental Biology (Euro Evo Devo) that will be held from June 26 – 29, 2018 at the National University of Ireland in Galway. The title of Dr. Fritzsch’s symposium is “Rewiring motor systems to evolve a vertebrate head.” This symposium will provide a unique perspective on vertebrate head evolution, detailing the evolution of motor systems controlling jaw and head movements, eye movements, parasympathetic control of all head glands, and facial branchial motor derived gain control of inner ear hair cells.
