Winter 2019 Newsletter Now Available
The Department of Biology's Winter 2019 Newsletter is now available! You can view the digital version and pdf on our website.
NOTE: If you would like to receive a printed copy of the newsletter, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and provide your mailing address.
In the newsletter, we feature the work of the Developmental Studies Hybridoma Bank and its role with potential anticancer drugs. We also discuss Dr. Summers’ research, our newest faculty member, on finding treatments for people affected by neurodegenerative diseases. You’ll also hear about the accomplishments of many of our outstanding faculty, staff, and students. We celebrated the promotions of Drs. Josep Comeron and Anna Malkova in recognition of their international reputations and research accomplishments. We also congratulate Dr. Rajula Elango, who received the prestigious D.C. Spriestersbach Dissertation Prize. Dr. Brenda Grewe (formerly Leicht), a talented instructor that interfaced with many of our alumni, retired after 23 years in the department! We thank Dr. Grewe for her outstanding contributions and wish her the best. We are always very proud of the many achievements of each and every one of our great alumni and friends. This year we feature Chance Sullivan, a former biology student and recent graduate of the UI Carver College of Medicine.
Year 2020 will be the 165th Anniversary of our department! We’ve been through many name changes and mergers since our beginning (Botany, Zoology, Biological Sciences), but one thing will always remain the same – our commitment to excellence in research and education. As we embark on our 165th year, I would love to hear your stories! You can share your experiences in the “Alumni and Friends Keep-In-Touch” form or email me directly (email@example.com). Thank you for your continued support and interest in the Department of Biology.
