Jeff Shander, Research Associate in Professor Alan Kay's lab in the Department of Biology, contributed to a decade-long research project that culminated in the publication of the article “The human cell count and size distribution” in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science journal! Shander’s dedication to studying human proteins and their relationship to disease, combined with his expertise in engineering and human biology, led to the identification of discrepancies in medical physiology information. Shander’s and his collaborators’ groundbreaking work resulted in the first comprehensive index of human cells and the discovery of an inverse relationship between cell size and number.
Shander joined Professor Kay's lab in March 2024. His current work focuses on studying the cell count, cell mass, and protein composition of various human tissues.
