Lori Adams
Lori Adams received a BS in Crop Science from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana and a PhD in Genetics from Texas A&M in College Station, TX. Lori carried out post-doctoral research at the Boyce Thompson Institute on the Cornell University campus and then later at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she researched how plants defend themselves against pathogen attacks. At the University of Iowa (UI), Lori is a Distinguished Professor of Instruction and Director of the Iowa Sciences Academy. The Iowa Sciences Academy (ISA) is home to a range of federally-funded, institutionally-funded, and donor-funded programs that support the success of undergraduate students interested in research and scientific communication. Through ISA programs, students have access to hands-on research, professional development, and scientific outreach opportunities. Lori is recognized as a National Academies Education Mentor in the Life Sciences, a NIH National Research Mentoring Network Master Facilitator, and Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) Principal Facilitator.

Research Experience
My broad graduate (Adams-Phillips et al., 2004) and postgraduate (Adams-Phillips et al., 2010 and Wolf et al., 2021) research training in all of the major biomedical model organisms including yeast, mice, zebrafish, Xenopus, C. elegans, and Arabidopsis is especially useful as I communicate with students and mentors doing research in diverse Bioscience disciplines.
