To kick off Rare Disease Week in February 2024, Department of Biology Professor, John Manak, had the honor of leading a globally broadcast webinar entitled, “Good Genes Gone Bad.” In this webinar, Dr. Manak (AKA Dr. DNA) discussed DNA and detailed the genetics of all porphyrias (inborn errors of heme biosynthesis that result in extremely debilitating clinical features). Dr. Manak was also appointed to the American Porphyria Foundation Scientific Advisory Board in 2023.
