My goal as a teacher is to provide students with the intellectual tools to understand course concepts but also acquire knowledge that goes beyond the course content, such as the ability to think and search for answers to questions outside the traditional classroom. My aim is to share my knowledge, excitement, and dedication to teaching science, and especially biology, with my students. My desire to challenge, engage, and inspire my students in regards to scientific knowledge is not limited to the classroom. I see lecturing as a large conversation between my students and myself. I always try to create an atmosphere that encourages the students' participation and involvement as I find this to be the best way to engage my students in the material I am presenting, whether it is in the classroom or the laboratory.
