The annual Summer Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC), sponsored by the Graduate College and the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR), was held on Wednesday, July 30 from 1:00–3:30pm in the Iowa Memorial Union, Main Lounge. Several students affiliated with the Department of Biology presented at the conference including students in a Biology faculty research lab or majoring in one of our undergraduate programs (Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or Neuroscience). Also presenting at SURC were students in the Iowa Sciences Academy, home to a range of programs that support the success of undergraduates interested in research and scientific communication and is administered in the Department of Biology. Several Biology faculty also served as mentors to students who presented at SURC including summer research programs such as the Interdisciplinary Evolutionary Biology REU program (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) and BSSURP (Biomedical Scholars Summer Undergraduate Research Program).
